Lago di Auronzo
Stretching for two kilometres in the Valle d'Ansei, in the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, is the Auronzo Lake, a clear, sparkling body of water that is one of the most atmospheric and popular lakes in the Veneto region. Located in the Province of Belluno, Lake Auronzo is an artificial basin, the result of a dam created in the 1930s to block the course of the river Ansei. Standing at 55 metres high, the dam was completed in 1932 and the reservoir is capable of collecting 6.25 million cubic metres of water. The dam ends near a small chapel dating back to 1500 and dedicated to St Cristina, which is why you might also hear it called the Lake of Santa Cristina.
