Autumn in Val Sesis
Val Sesis is the valley that, starting from Cima Sappada, leads to the Sources of the Piave; the 8 kilometers of asphalt road can be traveled by car during the summer months; alternatively, the sources of the river Sacro alla Patria can be reached on foot or by bicycle via one of the many paths. Val Sesis is surrounded by the Peralba - Chiadenis - Avanza mountain range, and on this side there are four refuges (Piani del Cristo, Baita Rododendro, Sorgenti del Piave and Pier Fortunato Calvi). In Val Sesis we find the highest peak of Sappada, Monte Peralba (2694 m.), also reached by Pope John Paul II, to whom the path that, starting from the Calvi refuge, leads to the summit was dedicated. Along the road that leads to the Sources of the Piave, it is possible to reach, with a few minutes' walk, the Malga Casera Vecchia, where cheese, ricotta and butter are produced. Don't forget to pay attention to the sentinels of the valley, the marmots that watch you curiously as you walk through the meadows and paths!
